Apple plans to release iPad Mini to compete against Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire.
Google last week announce its first tablet, the Nexus 7 which is powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it will be competing against the Amazon Kindle Fire which currently is the most popular Android tablet. The current king of the tablets, the Apple iPad will remain its dominant position because Google and Apple are competing in different market segments. Unfortunately for Google, Apple appears to be working on direct Nexus 7 competitors called iPad Mini.
According to new reports from Bloomberg and WSJ, Apple is working on iPad Mini with the screen size between 7 and 8 inches, as opposed to the 9.7-inch screen for the regular iPad. The device will be announced on October along with iOS 6 and the new iPhone.
At this point we don’t know the specs or price but it should be priced at around $250-300 to be able to compete against Nexus 7, Amazon Kindle Fire and original iPad.
It is expected that iPad Mini will feature 1600×900 display with a pixel density of 262 pixels per inch. This tablet will feature the A5 dual-core processor used in the refreshed iPad 2. Detailed specification will be available upon release in mid-October.
The same report states that the iPad Mini could replace iPod Touch, which didn’t get a decent upgrade last year during the iPhone 4S and iOS 5 event. It means that Apple is moving away from iPod towards iPhone and iPad. Apple have killed many great products that weren’t profitable enough and this could be no different.
We have heard rumors about iPhone Mini and other Apple products that have never been announced and this sound like one of these rumors. Over the last two years we have heard similar rumors from Reuters, Digitimes, CNet, and Bloombergs so even the most credible sources can turn out to be whistleblowers.
We will keep you update once we will get to know more about this mysterious device, meanwhile, you can express your opinions regarding 7-inch iPad Mini on comments bellow.
