It’s been over 7 months since Samsung introduced world with first phablet – Galaxy Note. It is slightly larger than a smartphone and a fair bit smaller than a tablet (especially the 9.7 and 10.1 inchers). You can use it as regular smartphone or use it as tablet. Galaxy Note is very popular between power users and ones who like one device that does everything.
We have seen Samsung Galaxy S3 in the wild and it makes the Galaxy Note to blush in envy. So it would be about time for Samsung to start working on the Galaxy Note predecessor the Galaxy Note 2. Samsung has not confirmed the Galaxy Note’s successor but without a doubt there will be one. Many industry experts were skeptical about Galaxy Note’s success but Samsung has sold over 6 million phablets and this number continues to grow.
There’s not much information available about upcoming Samsung Galaxy Not 2 but after seeing Galaxy S3 we have an idea what to expect. The current Galaxy Note has 5.3inch Super AMOLED display with 800 x 1280 pixels and it is likely that Galaxy Note 2 will have similar display. Resolution has reached maximum where it makes sense for its display size. It is reported that Samsung is working to new display technology to replace Super AMOLED (PenTile) technology which uses less power and has better contrast and colors. The Galaxy Note 2 display will have better response time to improve drawing and other accuracy-demanding tasks.
The upcoming Galaxy Note 2, following industry trends, will have quad-core processor and most likely it will be from Exynos series, similar to those in the Galaxy S3. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 camera to have the same 8 megapixel resolution but new lens and image sensor will capture better images than before.
The Galaxy Note 2 will learn from its smaller brother, the Galaxy S3, and will have tools like S Beam, NFC, S Voice, Smart Stay, Direct Call, and other innovations.
It is more likely that Samsung has some surprises in mind that will not be revealed before we see the actual device. Based on latest Samsung product life cycle we can expect the Galaxy Note 2 to be release on October, year after its predecessor.
Will see if Samsung will be able to hide the Note 2 as good as Galaxy S3 from being leaked but we will keep the eye on every move Samsung takes on its way.
Update (1): Samsung Galaxy Note 2 expected to arrive on October with slightly larger display and quad-core Exynos processor.
