Newly created company Samsung Display has starting producing 4.65-inch Super AMOLED Plus displays for its next generation Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, according to trusted Korean source.
While Galaxy S3 predecessor Galaxy S2 and its rival Galaxy Nexus have Super AMOLED screen with PenTile display technology the new Galaxy S3 will be non-PenTile Super AMOLED Plus display with 1280×720 resolution.
Previously we heard rumors that Samsung Galaxy S3 will come with 4.8-inch full HD display but these rumors are declined by the Korean Daily who claims that displays in production are exactly 4.65-inches.
International version of Galaxy S2 came with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display, and was awarded as the best smartphone screen due to its outstanding crisp look and natural, saturated colors. While it doesn’t have the best pixel density between competitors it’s still the gorges looking display.
After seeing great success of Galaxy Nexus Samsung decided to use the same size screen but with more advanced technology which will likely require more battery life so we are not sure how Samsung will deal with this issue as battery technology haven’t improved by much over the past decade and it’s the main thing that holds back many technology innovations like better resolution screens, faster processors and so on.
Samsung Galaxy S3 upon release will have the in-house built Exynos processor. Early predictions say that it will be quad-core processor with built in support for graphics. We can’t know this for sure but dual-core processors could be great as well as they are more power efficient while being less powerful only by tiny difference.
Currently Samsung haven’t confirmed Galaxy S3 release date but based on Samsung product lifecycle the presentation will be held sometime in May and smartphone will be available globally on day one but stating from late May or early June.
Galaxy S3 predecessor was presented at the Mobile World Congress 2011 and then launched in April it’s about month after presentation. Many customers were disappointed that Galaxy S2 was available in South Korea and Europe and it took almost 5 months to deliver it to US and other markets. We can be sure that Samsung understood their mistake and this time global launch will be scheduled better. Of course if you are looking to buy a phone on contract then you will still depend on your mobile carrier and it can take forever to get Samsung Galaxy S3.
While many sources claim that delay is due to Android Ice Cream Sandwich update my common sense says Samsung still sees how well Galaxy S2 sales perform and don’t want to kill it with small update but rather something unexpected and surprisingly good like it was in Galaxy S2 case last year.
