I am sure some of you have tested Siri an Apple created voice assistant currently capable only with iPhone 4S but you have an Android smartphone so you can’t have this voice assistant for your phone unless you use some hacking skills and install it on your smartphone.
If you still love Siri and are aware that Google Voice commands are already on every Android based phone and it can do similar things to Siri but you have to learn exact commands to control your phone via Google Voice not like it’s with Siri where you can freely improvise and you still get a result you wanted. This is where Skyvi comes into game, voice assistant for your Android based smartphone just like Siri is to iPhone 4S.
There are many other Siri alternatives for Android but Skyvi so far is the best due to regular updates from developers and smooth Facebook and Twitter integration. I spend some time throwing command after command to Skyvi and it was able to server what I asked for.
To understand what Skyvi can do here is few examples of questions/requests and results:
- How far is Earth from the Sun? 93 million miles
- Where is the nearest restaurant? Skyvi gives list of restaurants
- Tweet that I am currently testing Skyvi and I like it! Twitter shows “I am currently testing Skyvi and I I like it!”
- What is capital of Denmark? Copenhagen
- Where am I? Gives exact location and link to the Google Maps
- How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
I’ve had some issues with few questions, such as asking for some food recipes, and there seems to be some navigation problems as well as I had many issues to get directions from one place to another. Taking into account that Skyvi team is working on this Android voice assistant only for few months and they are pushing update after update these problems are minor and will be solved eventually.
Few more things I would like to see changed is design and improved voice recognition. While Siri has great design and simple interface you can’t say this about Android alternative.
Things I liked most is Facebook and Twitter integration so Skyvi can find your friends and read their tweets and answers to them or comment on other people Facebook status.
This is nice feature and it works in almost any way you ask.
Siri for Android most likely will never be released so we have to stick with alternatives like Skyvi, Google Voice, Iris and others but so far Skyvi is the best in the list and if developers won’t stop here we will see outstanding Siri competitor as it already can do things that Siri can’t and vice versa.
